June 2019

2019 postdoc resolutions’ update – June

And half of the year is done just like that. I have spent this month mainly doing my postdoc project and side project writing up. Productive month I would say.

The scale is 0 to 3 (0 – no progress, 1 – tiny progress, 2 – some progress, 3 – galactic progress).

I don’t really know how relevant my new year’s resolutions still are. Let’s see:

1. I will learn new research method this year

I became really good at assigning the markers and correcting processing the marker trajectories. Struggling to prepare a pipeline for processing the data now.

Progress: 1/3.

2. I will master one new statistical concept this year

I have learned that Excel is not enough for me as a statistical tool.

Progress: 1/3.

3. I will invest in relationships

I had a few catch ups with collaborators. Also, I have revived a project from two years before.

Progress: 1/3.

4. I will set up a healthy schedule/lifestyle

Not enough sleep. Training went well, lots of personal records. Eating from great went to bad… Does it mean that eating is correlated with sleeping?

Overall:  2/3.

5. I will set up an outreach plan

Instagram:

I’m posting everyday and it’s so much fun. I have done #reserchreignite challenge from @shoregnized.

Blogs were on hold this month unfortunately. I have written some drafts, but nothing to a publishable level.

Progress: 1/3.

6. I will come up with (my dream) a job

Nothing to report.

Progress: 0/3.

7. I will make a plan for the future (20 years)

Nothing to report here too.

Progress: 0/3.

8. I will dare to start the project which I have always wanted to do, but did not have a chance to realise

No new projects started. The additional project is going well. Every free minute I have, I spent analysing the data and writing it up.

Progress: 2/3.

9. Postdoc progress

The project is going great, crazy busy though. I have been constantly switching between data collection, data processing, data analysis and preparing reports.

Progress: 3/3.

Summary for June

Learning (points 1 + 2 + 9) = 1 + 1 + 3 = 5

Development (points 3 + 4 + 5) = 1 + 2 + 1 = 4

Future (points 6 + 7 + 8) = 0 + 0 + 2 = 2

This totals at 11 (out of 27) for June 2019. The least number of points so far. I have worked a lot, did not get sick, but was a bit stressed.

How was your June?

Hugs, Alex
